𝗟𝗼𝘀 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘀, 𝗖𝗔. 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟭𝟱 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 — Industry-leading edge data centre operator Edge Centres is proud to announce the new addition of the prior CEO of Multacom, Kia Jahangiri to the Edge Centres executive team. Starting immediately, Jahangiri will take responsibility for facilities, network and support overseeing the consolidation and integration of Edge Centres’ growing edge data centre footprint into a single, platform.
Starting with the company’s first US acquisition in St Louis, Missouri, in April 2023, (alongside the opening of its US head office), Edge Centres has conducted a rapid series of acquisitions throughout multiple US states. In California, Missouri, Michigan, and Virginia, Edge Centres is assembling the first phase of an expansion that will see the acquisition of 20 facilities in the US over a three-year period.
Jahangiri commented: “I’m so excited to share that I’ve joined Edge Centres as Chief Technical Officer. I believe this edge platform will scale at an unprecedented rate across the US. I am proud to be a part of this team during this expansion, and I’m looking forward to driving innovation in order to accelerate platform design and consolidation, helping Edge Centres to deliver unparalleled value to our clients in the US, Asia, Australia, and beyond.”
Jonathan Eaves commented: “We are lucky to have Kia onboard. After working with him for the last 12 months, it was clear that he would flourish in this role. He brings a wealth of experience that will enable our Edge Platform to be Leading at the Edge.“
Edge Centres expands its US footprint with a 5th completed acquisition in under 4 months, adding capacity and connectivity to the Edge Data Center platform
The acquisition sees Edge Centres add another facility to its rapidly expanding US footprint, and marks the closure of the company’s 5th successful acquisition in under 4 months. This puts Edge Centres on track to establish a nationwide edge data center network in the US, acquiring 20 facilities in 3 years to create a global network of sites in the US, Australia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and beyond.
The newly-acquired 25,000 square foot site, located at 707 Wilshire Boulevard in downtown Los Angeles, has a capacity of 1 Megawatt across 250 racks and is currently operating at 82% occupancy. The facility’s rich interconnection and strategic location gives Edge Centres’ customers access to a combined network capability of 400 GB per second in the Los Angeles area. With Edge Centres’ own dark fiber connecting 530 and 1 Wilshire, Edge Centres is able to support any customer’s requirement, domestic or international.
Jonathan Eaves, Edge Centres Founder & CEO, commented: “A year ago, Edge Centres opened its first PoP in the US to further support its Australian and Asian customers, as well as expand into the US. Over the last year, we worked very closely with the Multacom team. The experience has given us great confidence in their ability to support international, interstate, and local companies.
“Essentially, we liked what Multacom did so much that we knew they’d make a perfect addition to the Edge Centres team. It’s a fantastic opportunity to acquire a business that we’ve worked with so closely over the last 12 months. The entire Multacom team will be onboarded and remain a part of the business going forward. They’re a vital resource, bringing experience, long-standing business relationships, and expertise to our growing team.”
The Optical Fibre Switch technology combines an active switching system and a passive latching mechanism, enabling automated provisioning and configuration. The Main Control Unit controls all switching elements, monitors real-time status of cross-connections and network performance, and transmits data and alarms to the central network management system.
The system is our next generation of customer remote patching across all our facilities.
Dragan Dimitrovici, the CEO is Xenoptics was on-site to help guide the team in its operation and deployment.
At the Edge, remote patching and monitored networks are key to the successful operation of our “live” and “lights-out” facilities. This unit enables seamless operation for both.
The site, EC104, is the first carrier hotel to join Edge Centres’ growing platform of regional edge data centers. With a capacity of 1 MW (and room to scale), the new site is connected to all major US telecoms, houses 20 individual carriers, and is closely interlinked with all other major providers in the surrounding region.
70% of all internet traffic passes through the state of Virginia, making it the world’s most mature and densely populated data center market with multiple gigawatts of capacity and tens of thousands of miles of installed fiber optic cable. The acquisition of a carrier hotel in this market therefore provides Edge Centres and its customers with the richest interconnection and transportation opportunities for their data in the world.
As Edge Centres’ platform expands, EC104 represents an ongoing commitment to growing our US footprint, establishing a point of presence on the Eastern Seaboard, as the current phase of expansion moves beyond the West Coast and Midwest towards New Jersey, where Edge Centres is exploring new potential additions to its portfolio. EC104, as well as recently acquired sites in St. Louis and Los Angeles, represent the first phase of a 20-facility rollout for Edge Centres over the next three years.
