Edge Centres expands its US footprint with a 5th completed acquisition in under 4 months, adding capacity and connectivity to the Edge Data Center platform
 
The acquisition sees Edge Centres add another facility to its rapidly expanding US footprint, and marks the closure of the company’s 5th successful acquisition in under 4 months. This puts Edge Centres on track to establish a nationwide edge data center network in the US, acquiring 20 facilities in 3 years to create a global network of sites in the US, Australia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and beyond.
 
The newly-acquired 25,000 square foot site, located at 707 Wilshire Boulevard in downtown Los Angeles, has a capacity of 1 Megawatt across 250 racks and is currently operating at 82% occupancy. The facility’s rich interconnection and strategic location gives Edge Centres’ customers access to a combined network capability of 400 GB per second in the Los Angeles area. With Edge Centres’ own dark fiber connecting 530 and 1 Wilshire, Edge Centres is able to support any customer’s requirement, domestic or international.

The Optical Fibre Switch technology combines an active switching system and a passive latching mechanism, enabling automated provisioning and configuration. The Main Control Unit controls all switching elements, monitors real-time status of cross-connections and network performance, and transmits data and alarms to the central network management system.

The system is our next generation of customer remote patching across all our facilities.

At the Edge, remote patching and monitored networks are key to the successful operation of our “live” and “lights-out” facilities. This unit enables seamless operation for both.

The site, EC104, is the first carrier hotel to join Edge Centres’ growing platform of regional edge data centers. With a capacity of 1 MW (and room to scale), the new site is connected to all major US telecoms, houses 20 individual carriers, and is closely interlinked with all other major providers in the surrounding region.

70% of all internet traffic passes through the state of Virginia, making it the world’s most mature and densely populated data center market with multiple gigawatts of capacity and tens of thousands of miles of installed fiber optic cable. The acquisition of a carrier hotel in this market therefore provides Edge Centres and its customers with the richest interconnection and transportation opportunities for their data in the world.

As Edge Centres’ platform expands, EC104 represents an ongoing commitment to growing our US footprint, establishing a point of presence on the Eastern Seaboard, as the current phase of expansion moves beyond the West Coast and Midwest towards New Jersey, where Edge Centres is exploring new potential additions to its portfolio. EC104, as well as recently acquired sites in St. Louis and Los Angeles, represent the first phase of a 20-facility rollout for Edge Centres over the next three years.

The acquisition of Host Networks adds an existing 20-year DC business to Edge Centres’ growing footprint.

Brisbane, Australia – May 17, 2023 – Edge Centres, the world’s only off-grid edge data centre operator, has acquired Host Networks, a well-established and successful cloud, physical Server and co-location Data Centre company.

Through the acquisition, Edge Centres adds a further 130 racks stage one, and a new range of customers to its rapidly expanding global portfolio. The site with 20 years+ of robust and secure network along with a stable growth customer base in Eight Mile Plains, Queensland.

Over the next 12 months, the facility will be updated to align with all other Edge Centres facilities to TIER III design, build, and operation. Additionally with a dual focus on sustainability and energy efficiencies.

The facility, totalling 550kW on day one with a second stage of another 250kW, will be Edge Centres’ biggest expansion in Australia to date. With Network already enabling a presence in Sydney, this interconnectivity is also key to the successful delivery of Edge Centres’ mission. With high-speed, redundant, carrier-neutral fibre interconnections from each site to major internet exchanges.

Host Networks, customers and products will be supported by a 24×7 team and have new additions in time to enhance the Australian market. Coupled with the additional support functions, Host Networks will have more vendor support for its operational team in both DC and Network, which will enhance the quality of service.
